   Most of my time is devoted to research  and civil society work. I have served as co-ordinator for a number of conferences on language, gender, civil society and culture. namely the conferences on Amazigh culture (2005), migration and cultural diversity (2004), civil society and sustainable development (2002)women and development (2001).

Furthermore, I have actively participated in numerous international conferences, the most recent of which are: “Women and their Empowerment in the Middle East (London 2005), Stereotypes about Women (Kenitra, 2005), Arabic sociolinguistics (Illinois 2005), "L'Europe: une Chance pour la Femme Musulmane?” organized by ‘La Pensée et les Hommes’ (Brussels, 2004), “Migration in the Mediterranean” (Milan, 2003), “Human Rights and Democracy in North Africa” (Casablanca, 2002).

I have equally participated in the confrerence on Amazigh morphology (IRCAM, 2004), and in the conference on the Standarisation of Amazigh (IRCAM 2002). I also contributed to the linguistics conference on ‘linguistic variation’ organised by the Faculty of Letters in 1994, the 1991 conference on linguistics in the Maghreb, the national symposium on ELT organised in Fez in 1989, and the international chamito-semitic conference organised the Faculty of Letters Sais in Fez in 1999 and 2000, the international conference on ‘civil society and sustainable development’ and ‘Migration and Cultural Diversity’ held by Fes-Saiss Association (2004). I have also actively contributed to the linkage between Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in Fez and the University of Essex in the UK. I am director of the linguistics journal Languages and Linguistics. Additionally, I have supervised, and continue to supervise, a considerable number of BA monographs, and many MA and Ph.D. dissertations. I feel committed to promote academic research in general in Morocco and the Arab world. Since 1994, I have been a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language, and since 2003, I have been a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Multilingualism
